Jaffrey, NH

Client: Town of Jaffrey, NH
Completed: 2018 & 2020 (multiple projects)
Construction Cost: $150,000

The Jaffrey Meeting House, built in 1775 on the same day as the Battle of Bunker Hill, is one of the area’s most significant historic landmarks. An important part of the town’s historic district, the building features a bell tower added in 1822, with a bell cast by the Paul Revere Foundry. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains a beloved symbol of the community’s heritage.

MPA was hired to design and supervise the replacement of the building’s historic wooden shingle roof — one of the few remaining examples of its kind in New Hampshire — a project that required meticulous detailing to preserve its historic character. The firm was later called back to perform a comprehensive historic building assessment, helping secure a New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) grant for tower restoration. MPA then designed and carried out the tower restoration.

The completed project preserves the building’s visual integrity while supporting its ongoing use. Today, the Meeting House remains a key part of the community, hosting concerts, forums, and private events, contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of Jaffrey’s historic center.
