MAPS Counseling Services
Keene, NH
History
Founded in 1973 to provide professional pastoral counseling, MAPS has steadily grown in both staff and programming. Now, offerings include counseling for children, adolescents, and families, as well as for individuals with autism spectrum disorders, those suffering from chronic pain, and those struggling with substance abuse. In 2015, MAPS was invited to relocate to the third floor of an annex building behind the United Church of Christ in Keene, New Hampshire.
Assumption
Counseling centers need to be calm, welcoming, and uplifting spaces with functional interiors. Privacy is a top priority, as is adequate personal space in communal areas.
Approach
To provide an interior fit-out, including a floor plan and practice aesthetic in a 4000 sq. ft. facility, MPA designed thirteen offices, two group spaces, a children’s therapy room, a meditation room, and a large waiting room.
Alchemy
A welcome, safe space is warmed by natural light through frosted glass and skylights. The ceiling elements offer visual “paths” inspired by MAPS’ commitment to help clients “Navigate Life’s Challenges.”
